Sophie Rodriguez, a senior at Heritage High School in Menifee, California, is the first-ever recipient of the LOCAL Bug Guy scholarship.
TEMECULA, California, May 1, 2022—LOCAL Bug Guy is proud to announce the first recipient of their inaugural, $1,500 scholarship. Sophie Rodriguez, a senior at Heritage High School in Menifee, California, was selected from a competitive pool of applicants. She plans to attend California Polytechnic State University beginning in the fall of 2022 and major in plant sciences.
LOCAL Bug Guy started this new scholarship in order to help students from the local community be successful in their academic pursuits, a purpose that is at the very core of the LOCAL Bug Guy business.
“I started LOCAL Bug Guy in 2011 by knocking on doors because I believed in providing a service that people would actually want to pay for while creating fulfilling and sustainable careers right in our community,” Owner Brent Longhurst stated. “I got 220 customers that first year. Now we’ve serviced more than 6,000 customers and have a robust team of dedicated techs. So we want to inspire the next visionary who wants to help transform the community so we ultimately live in a better world.”
High school seniors graduating from school districts located in Temecula, Winchester, Murrieta, and Menifee were eligible to apply for the scholarship. Along with an application, students had to submit a 500-word essay answering a question about how they use lessons or insights they gained from a local business owner as they pursue their career goals.
“Receiving this scholarship means a lot to me,” Rodrigeuz shared. “I've been accepted into my dream school but have been really struggling to afford it. This scholarship will help me to go to my dream school without having to worry about finances.”
